Photo by Ron Jenkins/Getty Images Aidan Hutchinson has been carted off with a lower-body injury, and it doesn’t look good. The Detroit Lions were having one hell of a game against the Dallas Cowboys, jumping out to a 28-point lead early in the second half. However, the fun came to a screeching halt. Lions defensive end Aidan Hutchinson picked up a sack on Dak Prescott, but in the process, his leg bent in an awkward way, and he stayed down on the field for several minutes. Per several reporters at the game, the Lions appeared to be preparing an air-cast for Hutchinson before they carted him off. The injury was bad enough that the FOX broadcast opted not to show the replay. If the injury is as bad as it looks, it’s absolutely devastating for the Lions. Hutchinson leads the entire NFL with 7.5 sacks through four games and two quarters, and the Lions have already lost a pair of edge defenders in Marcus Davenport and Derrick Barnes. Even though it looks extremely bleak, let’s hope for the best. We’ll offer updates as they come in. UPDATE: The Lions immediately ruled Hutchinson out for the game with a lower leg injury. UPDATE 2: Dan Campbell said it’s a tibia injury for Hutchinson and he will have to stay overnight in Dallas. “He’ll stay back here (in Dallas), and obviously he’s going to be down for a little while,” Campbell said. “So that’s tough, man. It’s hard when lose somebody like him, but we’ll know a lot more after this, and obviously wish him the best.” UPDATE 3: The Lions confirmed that it was a broken tibia—not a compound fracture—for Hutchinson that requires immediate surgery: CORRECTION: Aidan Hutchinson has a broken tibia, but it's not a compound break. He'll have surgery soon— kyle meinke (@kmeinke) October 14, 2024
