FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A driver was arrested overnight after allegedly hitting an officer while under the influence in Tower District, the Fresno Police Department announced. Police say just before 2 a.m. Sunday they responded to a reported physical disturbance in front of a nightclub at Olive and Linden avenues. As officers were investigating the incident, they report a vehicle traveling eastbound on Olive Avenue struck an officer, knocking him to the ground. Investigators say the vehicle slowed briefly and then continued driving eastbound before becoming stuck in traffic. Detectives report the driver, identified as 21-year-old Michelle Ashley Ruiz, and the adult male passenger were detained. After their investigation, police say Ruiz was arrested under suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit and run. The police department said the injured officer received medical treatment at a local hospital and has since been discharged.
