SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- One person is dead after a vehicle crashed into a cement barrier and went down a hillside just past downtown San Diego off of Interstate 5 Sunday night. A heavy police presence was at the scene of a single-car crash that happened around 9:10 p.m. Sunday at the off-ramp to Imperial Avenue off of southbound I-5. Suspect arrested in arson series along coastal North County According to the California Highway Patrol traffic incident page, a Kia Soul hit a cement barrier and went down an embankment into some brush when it hit a transformer, which then reportedly hit a pedestrian on the side of the off-ramp. The Imperial Avenue off-ramp and Cesar Chavez Pkwy were closed to traffic Sunday night while crews worked to get the car back up the hillside. The off-ramp was still closed to traffic as of 10:30 p.m. Sunday, according to Caltrans. The CHP traffic incident page as of 10:20 p.m. reports the victim has died. The driver is out of the vehicle. No other information was immediately available. CHP is investigating.
