Photo by Ron Jenkins/Getty Images The Detroit Lions offense accomplished something that they haven’t done in over 60 years. While Sunday may be defined by the Aidan Hutchinson injury, the Detroit Lions offense also looked absolutely dominant against the Dallas Cowboys. Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, the Lions added a field goal to push the score to 40-9. It was a punishing performance from both the run game and the pass game. Prior to the Cowboys game, the Lions hung 42 points on the Seattle Seahawks back in Week 4. That means they’ve now eclipsed 40 points in back-to-back games. And according to the Lions PR department, it’s the first time they’ve done that since 1962. The @Lions have scored 40+ points in consecutive games for the first time since 1962.It's only the fifth such occurrence in team history.#OnePride pic.twitter.com/u5pOqcZltJ— Detroit Lions PR (@LionsPR) October 13, 2024 Of course, the Lions weren’t done yet. Shortly after a Brian Branch interception, the Lions added another touchdown courtesy of Amon-Ra St. Brown to make it 47-9. That set another Lions mark since 1962—most points scored in a pair of consecutive games with 89. Back in 1962, the Lions scored 45 points in back-to-back games, so it’ll only take two more points from Detroit to overtake that record. UPDATE: Unfortunately, the Lions opted to put their backups in for most of the fourth quarter. While Hendon Hooker did complete a pass for 19 yards, he was sacked on a fourth-and-3, ending the Lions’ final realistic chance to add points. Still, I don’t think anyone is going to complain too much about the offensive performance in a 47-9 slaughtering. That 38-point margin of victory is the largest for the Lions since 2011, when Detroit crushed the Chiefs 45-3.
