RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) -- Rapid City's city hall is currently accepting donations of candy and costumes for the Knollwood community. It's for the annual Trunk or Treat by Renewal MB Church. Halloween is a holiday for everyone, and events like these, make sure no one is left out. "So we want to make sure that we are also not creating a barrier for those individuals that want to participate in the Halloween season. Making sure that they do have access to whether it's the costume itself or the makeup," Journey On Program Coordinator Eltina Three Stars said. "We see usually about three to four hundred kids and their families come through. So we go through a lot of candy and that's a lot to put on one church, but throughout the city supporting us, we're able to do that for the kids here and it's just a great thing," RCPD Community Interventionist Tyler Read said. South Dakota voter registration deadline approaching This year Journey On joined the drive, and is now accepting new and gently used costumes to help make sure all kids get to dress up and participate in the holiday. "Those that don't have costumes, we do understand that they can be quite spendy and so our goal here is to try and meet them in the middle, you know, provide what we can and still allow them to have a safe environment. Making sure that those costumes are kid friendly and just allowing them to be kids," Three Stars said. "Trunk or Treats are really the safest way to gather the kids, have them celebrate, get some candy, and it's better than just walking around and knocking on doors." Read Said Renewal MB Church will host this year's Trunk or Treat event on Halloween night and everyone in the community is welcome. Those interested in donating either candy or costumes can stop by City Hall in downtown Rapid City through the next two weeks.
