(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Temperatures lately, as of mid-October, have been largely well above average for this time of year. Southern Colorado has broken, or nearly broken, multiple heat records since Meteorological Fall began. By mid-October, the region is only supposed to be hanging out in the middle 60s. Of course, some fluctuation is expected but 60s should be more common than 70s and even 80s. That has not been the case lately. The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is keeping an eye on patterns and trends for us here in Southern Colorado. They currently believe that the rest of October will continue to be well above normal as far as temperatures go. As for moisture, the CPC is also watching a bullseye of dry weather for us here in Southern Colorado. Now that doesn't mean it won't rain or snow, but conditions are expected to largely be drier than normal for this time of year. The Florida coast may see a bit more moisture this time around; some of that may have to do with hurricane season. Looking forward to the rest of the year, October, November, and December, we can see that Southern Colorado is once again expected to see some very warm weather. In fact, it's not just the region that will be on the warm side. The CPC is watching most of the southern half of the United States for above-average temperatures as we wrap up 2024. Moisture for the rest of the year is also looking a bit dry. The Climate Prediction Center is watching for the Desert Southwest to be abnormally dry, and that includes most of Colorado. Again, these aren't necessarily forecasts. They are outlooks that take multiple sources of data into consideration. Forecasting several months out is no easy task, therefore trends and model data are used to assist in the making of these graphics from the CPC. Be sure to stick with the FOX21 Storm Team as we head further into Fall and Winter.
