Perry Village Council has taken the initial step needed to retain key personnel and get important contracts in place at the start of 2025. Council, at its Oct. 10 meeting, heard first readings for an assortment of resolutions that are typically introduced every year in October. These measures call for reappointing various village government administrators on a yearly basis, and authorizing the renewal of annual contracts with service providers. Council aims to hear first readings on these measures in October for a good reason. Resolutions or ordinances that come before council require three readings before a vote can be taken. Since Perry Village Council typically holds regular meetings once a month, the resolutions dealing with retaining government administrators, or renewing contracts, would receive a second reading in November and third reading in December. After the third reading for these resolutions takes place at the December meeting, council can vote on each measure the same night. So, council’s approval of these resolutions in December ensures that village government leaders who are reappointed can carry out their duties for the new year starting on Jan. 1. Renewed contracts also will go into effect at the beginning of 2025. Resolutions of this variety that received first readings on Oct. 10 included: • Separate measures to re-appoint James O’Leary as village solicitor and prosecutor; Christian Gray as village zoning inspector; and Brittany Schostek as village chief fiscal officer and clerk of council. • A resolution authorizing the employment of JP Wright Commercial and Residential Sanitation as a cleaning contractor. In addition, first readings were given for resolutions authorizing the mayor to enter into agreements with: • Attorney Jeremy Iosue of Stefanik, Iosue and Associates, to provide professional legal advice, consultation, assistance and services to the village on a day-to-day basis dealing with the proper management and administration of workplace issues and claims. • Civil and Environmental Consultants Inc., for professional engineering advice, consultation, assistance and services. • The Burnham Flowers Agency, to provide dental and vision insurance coverage for village employees. • Pollutro Rossley Insurance Agency Inc., to provide for the continuation of property and casualty insurance coverage for the village. • The major medical health care provider offering the best and most reasonable rates through CBIZ QBA Benefits, to provide major medical health care insurance coverage for village employees. • The Lake County Board of Commissioners, to provide central dispatch and communication services for the village Police Department. Perry Village Council’s next regular meeting is slated for 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at Village Hall, located at 3758 Center Road.
