Homicide detectives in St. Paul are investigating a second violent death this weekend after a man was shot Saturday night. Shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday, police responded to reports of a shooting near Woodbridge Street and Wheelock Parkway, according to a press release by St. Paul Police Sgt. Mike Ernster. When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground near the intersection with multiple gunshot injuries. Officers provided first aid until St. Paul fire medics arrived. The victim was taken to Regions Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The shooting marks the 22nd homicide of 2024 in St. Paul. There were 27 homicides as of this time last year. The St. Paul Police Department counts 21 homicides this year because the department’s records are for cases investigated by the department. One homicide in St. Paul this year was investigated by the Metro Transit Police Department. In another violent death this weekend, a man was stabbed around 5:30 p.m. Friday in a Lowertown gas station parking lot. Police say that it appeared to be the result of an altercation between two men inside the gas station. One man was taken into custody and then released as detectives continue to investigate.
