PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — In neighborhoods where voter turnout has been historically low, members of the NAACP and the National Pan-Hellenic Council took to the streets of Providence to encourage residents to vote. Their goal: to remind people that their voices matter, especially when it comes to the ballot box. Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., part of the NPHC, emphasized the importance of community visibility during the canvassing efforts. They said that by engaging directly with residents, they hope to inspire younger generations to take part in the political process. NAACP organizers said the initiative holds deep meaning, rooted in the historical fight for civil rights. One organizer reflected on the long journey to secure voting rights for marginalized communities. Organizers hope their efforts will empower community members to make their voices heard at the polls, emphasizing that the power to shape the future lies in every vote.
