DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Distracted driving leads to a rear-end collision in DeKalb County on Saturday. A 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling east on U.S. 6 and was attempting to make a left turn onto County Road 19 a little before 3 p.m. Saturday. The Dodge Ram had to yield to oncoming traffic for a safe turn, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department A 2016 Kia Forte also traveled east on U.S. 6, behind the Dodge Ram. The driver of the Kia Forte tried to pick up something from the vehicle's floor and did not see the Dodge Ram stop in front. The Kia Forte rear-ended the Dodge Ram at approximately 55 miles per hour, according to a press release. Deputy Henry Hilger arrived on the scene to investigate and assess injuries. He was told by the driver of the Dodge Ram that they hit their head during the collision but refused EMS examination. The driver of the Kia Forte complained of lower back pain and numbness in their legs, they also had abrasions on both arms. That driver was transported to a Fort Wayne hospital for injuries. No other passengers were in either vehicle at the time of the crash. Both vehicles were assessed $10,000 in damages.
