FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Public transportation around Fort Wayne will be available at no cost for a total of five days selected by Citilink to encourage voter turnout and safe holiday travel. To ensure the cost of transportation doesn't bar residents from voting in the election, Citilink is waiving bus fares for Tuesday, Nov. 5. In addition to Election Day, free rides will be offered Nov. 30 - the Saturday after Thanksgiving - and the following three Saturdays: Dec. 7, 14, and 21. Citilink seeks tax raise as company drives toward service cuts, ‘fiscal cliff’ Free fares will be available on those days for all regular bus routes and paratransit/access services. Free Fare Saturdays are sponsored by Ambassador Enterprises and Downtown Fort Wayne. Free fares on Election Day are sponsored by AARP Indiana. “We are thrilled to be introducing sponsorships for our free fare Saturdays, to ensure fiscal responsibility during a deficit while also continuing to give back to our community,” said John Metzinger, general manager and CEO of Citilink. “In 2023, ridership increased by about 26% on those Saturdays, and we look forward to even greater participation this year.”
