SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) -- Six people, including two children, have been displaced by a house fire in Suffolk. Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the 100 Block of N. 9th Street for a house fire. When crews arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke and fire showing from the home. The fire was venting from the side and rear of the home with flames getting close to a neighboring house. Crews attacked the fire with a hoseline to prevent it from spreading to the neighboring house. However, the home was ravaged by heavy fire and smoke damage, and the heat of the fire caused some thermal damage to the neighboring house. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
