FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Following the death of two racehorses at the Big Fresno Fair near the start of October, officials have confirmed a third racehorse has passed away.
According to Racing Director at The Big Fresno Fair Larry Swartzlander, the #6 horse, Acclider, in Race 7 on Friday had pulled up before the final turn and had to be ambulanced off the track.
Unfortunately, due to his injury, Swartzlander says Acclider had to be euthanized. He adds this is the second racing-related injury that resulted in a horse death on the Fresno track in 12 years.
This is the third racehorse to have died at the Big Fresno Fair. The first one, Tulane Tryst, died of pneumonia on Aug. 27 while in veterinary care. The second racehorse, Cry Me a Runner, died while on the track on Aug. 29.

Swartzlander, also the Executive Director of the California Authority of Racing Fairs (CARF), says the rare accident occurred despite extensive veterinary oversight and examinations of the horses and thorough maintenance and inspection of the racetrack.
The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) is conducting an investigation.
