POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Several homes were evacuated and a major intersection in Poway was closed due to a vegetation fire that was ignited by a vehicle fire on Saturday, Cal Fire reports. Firefighters with Cal Fire and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD) were busy battling a vegetation fire in Poway that started around 3:35 p.m. Saturday near the Scripps Ranch neighborhood. As of 6 p.m., firefighters were able to stop the forward rate of spread at one and a half acres. SDFD said in an update Saturday evening the vegetation fire was started by an RV that caught on fire and spread to nearby brush. Firefighters will remain on the scene through Saturday night to extinguish any hot spots. Bicyclist dies after losing control, crashing in Del Mar Deputies evacuated around 10 homes in the area of Old Stone Road, Caneridge Road and Oakview Way. Those residents were able to return to their homes by 6 p.m., Cal Fire said. The City of Poway posted on X an alert for residents to avoid the intersection of Scripps Poway Pkwy and Pomerado Road due to the vegetation fire. That roadway reopened to traffic just after 7 p.m. Saturday.
