Check out what's going on around the nation on our National News page A total of seven mpox cases have been diagnosed in Hawaii so far in 2024. Since 2022, a total of 53 cases have been reported to the Hawaii DOH. Study finds Hawaiʻi hospitals are not prepared for Mpox outbreak "Mpox is spread through intimate contact with body fluids, lesion material or items used by someone with mpox," said the DOH in a press release. Those with mpox may experience flu-like symptoms such as swollen lymph nodes or new or unexplained rashes or sores. According to health officials, the risk of getting pox is low, but those who may be at higher risk are advised to be vaccinated with two doses of the JYNNEOS vaccine four weeks apart. Officials said the vaccine will protect against clade II mpox and is also expected to protect against clade I mpox. Individuals can receive the vaccine at either Longs Drug (CVS) Pharmacies or Walgreens Pharmacies by scheduling an appointment online. Residents are also encouraged to visit a vaccine clinic on their island.
