Southern University football defeats Texas Southern in overtime, 2219

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Southern University Jaguars traveled to Houston, Texas to take on the Texas Southern University Tigers on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Jaguars defeated Texas Southern, 22-19.
After a scoreless first quarter, Texas Southern got on the board first after the Tigers picked off Southern quarterback Czavian Teasett and returned it for a touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead with 6:50 remaining in the second quarter.
Texas Southern extended their lead to 14-0 with 44 seconds before halftime after Trenton Leary ran it in for a 28-yard touchdown.
The Jaguars got on the board to open up the second half as Joshua Griffin made a 26-yard field goal to cut into the Tigers' lead to 14-3. Southern continued to chip away at Texas Southern's lead, 14-6, after Griffin made his second field goal of the game with 6:27 left in the third quarter.

Kendric Rhymes scored on a six-yard rushing touchdown to make it a 14-12 ballgame with 51 seconds left in the third quarter. Texas Southern extended their lead to 19-12 after a 38-yard-field goal and a safety.
Southern would tie the game at 19-19 after Noah Bodden found Quay Davis for a touchdown with 19 seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Jaguars would go on to defeat Texas Southern 22-19 in overtime.
Southern will be back in action at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19 as they host Alcorn State.
