The Monsters started their season the same way they ended the 2023-24 season, with a loss to Hershey.
In an opening-night rematch of the Eastern Conference finals on Oct. 12, the host Bears prevailed again, 7-3.
After the Monsters took a 2-1 lead midway through the second period, the Bears scored five straight goals to pull away.
Rocco Grimaldi, Roman Ahcan and Denton Mateychuk tallied for Cleveland (0-1). Mateychuk also had an assist. Jet Greaves saved 28 shots.
Trey Fix-Wolansky earned his 200th point in the AHL with an assist.
The teams take to the ice in Hershey again at 5 p.m., Oct. 13.
