It took four years, but Mentor senior Billy Dennison finally stands atop the Greater Cleveland Conference podium. He crossed the line first in 15 minutes, 56 seconds. He was closely followed by teammate Matthew Penkowski, who posted a 16:00. They were followed Michael Maynard (16:40) in seventh, and the Cardinals also took home the team title over Medina, 57 to 59. • Chardon took the top two spots in the WRC boys race, led by freshmen Caleb Nieset with a 16:06.30. Josh Calzada followed with a 16:24.40 and Kenston’s Matthew Collins rounded out the podium with a 16:29.90. South had Ethan Scott post a top 10 with a 17:15.50 and North was led by Jake Snyder with a 17:35.40. The Hilltoppers took home the team title with all of their top six runners in the top 11. • NDCL had two runners finish on the podium at the inaugural North Coast Conference meet. Ian Res and Owen Thomas were second and third with 16:25 and 16:39, respectively. CVCA’s Noah Mammone won the individual title. • Fairport senior Brenden Patterson battled the other runners and illness in the NAC meet. But the senior crossed the line 22nd with a 19:38.84. • Freshman Jackson Sharpless led the Andrews Osborne contingent at the Lake Effect Conference meet, placing 11th with a 20:43.12, a second off of his high school personal record. Girls • Four runners broke 20 at the WRC meet, headlined by Kenston’s Brianna McIvor scoring her first win with a 19:23.10 in her final home race. The Bombers’ runner beat out Chardon’s Briella Hewitt (19:24.6) and Riverside’s Megan Sullivan (19:34.7) for the top spot on the podium. The top five also featured the Hilltoppers’ Mira Palombo in fourth (19:40.60) and South’s Tillie O’Donnell (20:03.50). Mayfield’s top finisher was Makena Bremec in sixth (20:08.10) and North was paced by freshman Melanie Okerwall in 15th (21:20.70). In a tight battle for the team title, Chardon’s runners all finished in the top 20 and pushed them ahead of both Kenston and Riverside. • Josephine Holody rounded out the North Coast Conference podium. The Beaumont runner posted an 18:20 for third place, a PR by over two minutes. • Nora Kraska continued her strong end-of-the-season run with a sixth-place finish at the GCC meet. She posted a 19:41 to lead the Mentor charge. • Kaylee Muzzin came home 29th for Fairport in the NAC meet in 24:44.77. She was five seconds off of her PR and pushing the Skippers’ fastest time in school history lower. • Andrews Osborne rounded out the podium of the Lake Effect conference with Alejandra Gil second (23:03.62) and Ruby Evans third (23:58.95). The Phoenix duo only trailed Emma Calkins of Lake Ridge Academy.
