JERUSALEM, N.Y. (WETM) — A Virginia man was hospitalized after his tractor-trailer crashed and hit gas pumps in Yates County on Friday night. According to the Yates County Sheriff's Office, multiple local and state departments were called to state Route 54a and Guyanoga Road in the Town of Jerusalem just before midnight Friday for a report about a tractor-trailer that crashed, rolled over, and collided with a nearby business's gas pumps. After arriving at the scene, deputies found the truck and trailer each fully turned over on their sides. Gas was leaking, and downed electrical wires were in the area. Authorities say an initial investigation found that the driver, 66-year-old Alexei Vlad Plavan, had been traveling east on Italy Hill Road at an unsafe speed and didn't stop at the road's intersection with Guyanoga Road. The tractor-trailer continued through the intersection onto state Route 54a and rolled over when Plavan attempted to turn. Crews were still working to clean up the area five hours after the crash, according to the Yates County Sheriff's Office. 511NY shows that all lanes of state Route 54a in the area were closed while crews worked at the scene. The Yates County Office of Emergency Management, the New York State Police Department, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Yates County Ambulance, the Branchport Keuka Park Fire Department, the Dresden Fire Department, the New York State Department of Transportation, and NYSEG responded to the scene.
