WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) —  One person is dead after he was shot and killed by law enforcement northwest of Wichita on Saturday morning.  The Wichita Police Department said at 7:06 a.m., a man called 911 threatening to shoot someone in the 6900 block of Childs Street. This is just north of 45th St. off Ridge Rd., outside city limits. Officers and deputies from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, Maize Police Department, and Valley Center Police Department, responded to the scene. More boil orders end for Kansas water providers When law enforcement arrived, they found a man in the front yard of a home wearing ballistic armor. WPD said for around an hour, officers and deputies tried to de-escalate the situation. The man repeatedly entered and exited a vehicle, driving it up and down the street. The WPD said at approximately 8:15 a.m., the man got out of the vehicle and charged at law enforcement. In response, officers shot him. He was pronounced dead at 8:28 a.m. The WPD said it is unclear if the man was armed when he charged at law enforcement, and this detail will be part of the ongoing investigation. The WPD's ALERT Team has been activated and will be leading the investigation.
