FOXBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — When Drake Maye was drafted with the third overall pick in this year's NFL Draft, analysts and fans immediately began debating when he would and should be the starting quarterback for the New England Patriots. Now, with the team looking to rebound from a 1-4 start, we'll get our first true look at the 22-year-old from North Carolina. Maye got some playing time in the preseason and made a brief appearance against the New York Jets in Week 3, replacing veteran QB Jacoby Brissett with a few minutes left in the game. He has a chance now to replace Brissett for good as the Patriots' starter, with head coach Jerod Mayo giving him the nod earlier this week. Mayo went with Brissett to start the season, saying he gave the team the best chance to win, while it would also give Maye more time to get acclimated. But with a stagnant offense that's been a big factor behind four straight losses, Mayo has shifted gears. "Drake gives us the best chance to win now and going forward," Mayo said. "He’s been developing. He’s been getting better every single week." The Patriots defense won't have it much easier, with Houston having one of the more exciting offenses in the league behind star QB C.J. Stroud, a rookie himself just last year. At 4-1, the Texans are currently sitting atop the AFC South. Kickoff at Gillette Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game's on 12! Watch the Patriots face the Texans at 1 p.m. Sunday on WPRI 12.
