PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) -- The U.S. Navy is celebrating its 249th birthday this weekend. Founded on Oct. 13, 1775, the Navy has evolved from a small fleet of merchant ships into a powerful and lethal force charged with maintaining global stability. Another often overlooked day is also celebrated this month. Oct. 26 is National Day of the Deployed. On this day, we recognize all military personnel who have deployed overseas. Each month here on WAVY-TV 10, Admiral Daryl Caudle, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command will address a different topic important to our military community.
