By now, you’ve all heard a lot about the candidates running for Summit County Council, and perhaps some of you are still undecided. We want to remind you why Megan McKenna is the absolute best choice to represent you, your values, and the needs of this community.Do not underestimate the significance of Megan being a lifelong local, which is imperative in a resort town where local issues can easily get overlooked when big money flexes its influence. She grew up here, attended our schools, played in our open spaces as a child, and learned to ski on our mountains. Megan has seen first hand how Park City has changed from a ski town to a world-class resort town, and as you know, the changes haven’t always been good. Because she has roots in this community, Megan is fully invested in making sure Summit County grows in a way that reflects our values: affordable housing, open space, sustainability and community connection.Megan is highly educated in the very issues of sustainability we are all concerned about and has current first-hand experience handling our housing issues here in Summit County through her job as housing advocate for MountainLands Community Housing Trust. Megan is a critical thinker who consistently questions and examines all sides of an issue. Her strong communication skills, grounded in respect and active listening, enable her to connect with residents, and her ability to understand our needs will be an asset as she works to problem solve with her leadership team. With her years as an educator, she brings a unique and valuable insight into the challenges that our families face in this community. Teachers are under constant pressure to make hundreds of decisions a day, and she did so with equity, fairness, diplomacy, respect, and compassion front and center for each student and family. Because of her experience with students and families, Megan embodies a deeply rooted responsibility for our community. These qualities are essential for effective leadership. Her dedication to sustainable growth is evident in her commitment to the issues and knowledge of their complexity which are backed by her extensive experience and education.Ethics are the core of Megan’s approach. She is committed to doing what is right for Summit County, prioritizing the well-being of our community above the pressures of outside influences, money, or power.
