A student at Frisbie Middle School in Rialto was hospitalized Friday after being stabbed by another student following a physical altercation, officials said. The victim reportedly was standing up to a bully who was picking on another student when the fight escalated, according to KTLA 5. Cellphone video footage shows the two boys tackling each other, one of them holding what appears to be a knife or some sort of weapon. Following the attack, Rialto police arrived at the school and arrested the suspected stabber. The injured student was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was treated for stab wounds on his right arm and required stitches, according to KTLA 5. Officials with the Rialto Unified School District released a statement late Friday confirming that “a student brandished a knife and assaulted another student” and that paramedics were called. The statement offered no other details of the assault. The statement went on to say that “parents were notified and updated twice about this incident. The safety of our students and staff remain our top priority. We will continue to strengthen communication with parents to make sure that campus safety remains a shared responsibility.” A call late Friday to Rialto police seeking more details on the attack and the subsequent arrest was not immediately returned.
