PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Two wedding receptions were interrupted by a fire that broke out in the venue's kitchen Friday evening.
Javier Flores told 12 News he and his wife were celebrating their marriage at the Waterman Grille with friends and family when the fire alarms suddenly started going off.
"We were taking pictures, giving speeches and then we started hearing the fire alarms," Flores said. "We were like, 'This can't be real.'"
"But then [the venue was] like, 'No everyone go outside,'" he continued.
Firefighters helped everyone evacuate safely and quickly knocked down the fire, which had spread up into the vents and onto the roof.
Deputy Assistant Fire Chief Robert Butler told 12 News that, once the flames were out, "the guys had a little bit of fun with the bride and groom."
Flores described the firefighters as being the ultimate wedding crashers.
"We took a couple of pictures in the fire truck," Flores said. "It made our night. It was fantastic."
The Waterman Grille was not damaged by the fire and both weddings were allowed back inside to continue their celebrations.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
