MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Memphis teen will spend his 20th birthday in court after he and two others were arrested for a carjacking at a Whitehaven apartment complex Thursday night. Derrick Jones, 19, and Ladarious Roberts, 27, will be arraigned Monday on charges of carjacking, employment of a dangerous weapon, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The third person taken into custody was 17. Derrick Jones & Ladarious Roberts (SCSO) The victim said he was sitting inside his Chevy Impala at the Mill Creek Apartments when he was approached by two males and a female who asked him for 50 cents. The victim said when he told them he didn't have any change, two of the individuals pulled ski masks over their faces, pointed a gun at him, and told him to get out of his car. Police said a broadcast was put out for the stolen Impala, and a few minutes later, officers spotted the car exit the apartment complex and pulled it over. Police said Jones was in the driver's seat and Roberts in the front passenger seat. They said both were identified by the victim as the people responsible for the carjacking.
