• Mentor — the No. 1-ranked Division I team in this week’s Associated Press state poll — improved to 8-0 on the season with a dominant 45-14 win at Brunswick on Oct. 11. The Cardinals are back home next week for the first time in two weeks and will played Strongsville on Oct. 18 with a Greater Cleveland Conference title on the line. Quarterback Scotty Fox threw three touchdown passes for Mentor. Running back Jackson Farley added two TD runs. Dominic Burns finished the scoring for Mentor with a 52-yard touchdown run. • The race for the No. 1 spot in the D-IV, Region 13 appears to be a race between Lake Catholic and Perry. The Pirates — No. 2 in the region and within striking distance of No. 1 Lake — kept pace with the Cougars with a dominant 49-13 victory and improved to 7-1. Perry next hosts West Geauga on Oct. 18. • Benedictine’s Chris Maloney ran for 201 yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Bengals dominated Erie (Pa.) Cathedral Prep, 42-14. The Bengals improved to 6-2 and next play at Brush on Oct. 18. Benedictine was No. 2 in the D-III, Region 10 computer ratings. • Logan Ruscin had a huge game with 211 rushing yards on just eight carries and scored four touchdowns as Wickliffe won big over Independence, 33-14. Wickliffe improved to 5-3 and next hosts Brooklyn on Oct. 18. • Berkshire defeated Crestwood, 23-14, as Justin Phillips rans for 124 yards and scored two TDs. As a team, the Badgers ran for 254 yards. Berkshire improved to 6-2 and plays at 5-3 Fairview on Oct. 11. • Gilmour remained undefeated on the season at 8-0 with a big 35-7 win over Brush.
