BRIGHTON, IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. (WROC) — Fox's Deli is celebrating a state assembly nomination for the Historic Business Preservation Registry. The nomination for the deli in Brighton's Winton Place Plaza happened earlier this week. The original owner Irving Fox opened his first deli in Rochester in 1943 but traces his history to 1929. The current ownership team is led by Alex Rhinewald — who says he grew up on their Rubens —have kept some of the Jewish recipes. Rhinewald is thankful for the recognition and continuing regular customers. "Having that baseline of super loyal customers is super important to us, and we want to make sure that we kept things in line for them as much as we could," he said. "A lot of people thank us for keeping it around, which is special for us, we find that important and we want to be top of mind all the time." Fox's is looking to open a bagel shop on Park Avenue in Rochester in the future. They recently opened a pop-up in the JCC of Greater Rochester. House of Guitars was also nominated for the same historic business list. The iconic guitar and record shop in Irondequoit was opened in 1964 by Armand and Bruce Schaubroeck. The world-famous shop has hosted countless famous musicians for a visit, and has been a center for the Rochester music community since it opened.
