MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Honda driver died following a fiery head-on crash with a dump truck in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP says that on Friday at around 7 a.m. officers rescinded to a crash on Lander Avenue or Highway 165, north of Corral Road. When officers arrived they found that a Honda and a 2012 International dump truck crashed head-on blocking both lanes.  Investigators say the Honda was driving northbound at an unknown rate of speed, passing vehicles using the southbound lane, before colliding head-on with the dump truck. The driver of the dump truck was on the southbound lane of Highway 165 going around 45 mph.  After the crash, CHP said both vehicles stopped blocking the northbound and southbound lanes. The Honda was engulfed in flames and the driver died at the scene. The name of the driver was not officially released. The driver of the International was transported by Westside Ambulance to Emanuel Hospital. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash.
