Wichita police mourn loss of K9 Officer Sol

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Wichita Police Department has announced the sudden death of K-9 Officer Sol.
After showing signs of being unwell, Sol was taken to a vet. Testing showed Sol had multiple tumors, and he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer that was rapidly spreading.
The department says despite the best efforts of his care team, his condition was terminal. The decision was made to humanely euthanize him. His partner was with him as he died.

Sol has been with the department since 2019, conducting 375 drug sniffs. Police say Sol was responsible for uncovering approximately:
430 pounds of marijuana and THC products
225 pounds of methamphetamine
20 pounds of cocaine
1 pound of heroin
32 pounds of fentanyl (combined powder and pills)
The seizure of a total of $450,000
K-9 Sol will be deeply missed by his partner, the department, and all those whose lives he touched. Rest in peace, Sol. Thank you for your service.
