CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The City of Chicopee raised a pink ribbon flag to recognize those who've been affected by breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

One in eight women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and there are currently more than four million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. 22News spoke to the community about what it means to see the flag raised for people fighting or recovering from cancer.
"Everybody knows somebody who has been touched by breast cancer. Either they know somebody who they've had the diagnosis themselves. So just seeing everybody coming together like the Breast Cancer Awareness Month and raising this flag, it's just it's really touching," said Tammy Shafer of Chicopee.
After the flag-raising, a fundraiser was held in City Hall to support Rays Of Hope for breast cancer research. To continue the fight against breast cancer, the Rays of Hope Walk and Run will be held at the Temple Beth El in Springfield on October 27th.
