As of last weekend, the chairlifts have stopped spinning on another mountain biking season in Park City. Thousands flocked to the trails at Deer Valley and Park City Mountain from in and out of town. Bikers were treated to trails familiar and new, special events and the resorts’ trademark amenities. Now, as the two resorts sit empty, they prepare for the lengthy, upcoming ski season, while also taking time to reflect on the summer. Both use feedback from the summer season to refine and upgrade their year-round experience.Deer Valley’s lifts shut down for the season Sept. 22, and Park City Mountain’s, last Sunday. Deer Valley is targeting a Saturday, Dec. 7, opening for the ski season and Park City Mountain Friday, Nov. 22. “The mountain biking season was fantastic,” said Deer Valley’s director of communications Emily Summers. “We had some weather challenges with lack of rain until the monsoon season started in August, but our crews remained diligent, working on trail conditions throughout the network all summer.”Deer Valley saw bikers flock to their new Regulator trail, which is tailored toward intermediate riders. Other highlights included holding new clinics, one focused on youth bikers, and the annual Mountain Beer Festival. A Park City Mountain biker flies down their Change Reaction trail this summer. They see the sport expanding towards new riders into the future. Deer Valley is now busy readying their staff, equipment and new terrain for the upcoming ski season. Park City Mountain also feels they had a great season, the opening of their new Seldom Seen directional trail, climbing numbers and local events being the highlights. They want to stay aligned with the Mountain Trails Foundation to maintain and expand the city’s trail network moving into the future. Park City Mountain also has their focus on the upcoming ski season, for which they’ve upgraded their snowmaking system this year. “Snowmaking typically starts toward the end of October as conditions allow,” said Park City Mountain communications manager Emily McDonald. “The snowmaking enhancements at Canyons Village will increase our ability to open more terrain in the popular Tombstone Express zone ahead of the holiday season.”Deer Valley is also confident in their “state-of-the-art” snowmaking system and their Dec. 7 opening date. The resort tends to make enough artificial snow to last the whole season as needed. Both resorts will need temperatures around freezing to get their snowmaking started. While temperatures are projected to get into the 70s Friday afternoon, they could drop as low as the high 30s by next Friday. The 2025 mountain biking season will likely begin in June, depending how the snowfall season goes this winter. The post Park City resorts reflect on another mountain biking season appeared first on Park Record.
