PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The high school football season is halfway done, meaning the playoff picture is starting to take shape. In this week's edition of the Friday Night Blitz, 12 Sports' Sam Knox and Mike Uva will bring you high school football scores, highlights and more from around Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, including the Game of the Week: Smithfield vs. North Smithfield. Providence Journal sportswriter Eric Rueb will join us to break down the night's games and highlights the area's top talent. This season, 12 Sports is recognizing players through a new segment called Player of the Week. Voting was open Monday through Wednesday, and fans selected Cumberland's Evan Spencer as Week 5's winner. Be sure to check back for next week's nominees.
