SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The warning period for red-light cameras at two Suffolk intersections started Friday. Red-light cameras for Route 58 intersection in Suffolk enter warning period The cameras are located at the northbound and westbound approaches to the Portsmouth Boulevard and Nansemond Boulevard intersection, and the southbound and eastbound approaches to the Godwin Boulevard and Kings Fork intersection. A sign is set up on Kings Fork Road to alert drivers of the new change.  One driver is happy the city is letting them adjust before it starts issuing tickets.  “It's actually good, because I'm not the best person to keeping up the right speed," said Ashely Miles. "So I think it's actually courteous to give us 30 days before so we can kind of start practicing." During the warning period, which is expected to last for 30 days, motorists violating red-light rules will receive a cautionary letter to their homes. Violators will face a $50 fine after the warning period. Jake Kirby, who drives to Suffolk for work, said these cameras will hopefully decrease the amount of crashes.  “I think it's a good thing, because there are wrecks there," Kirby said. "I've seen cars run off the road into the 7-Eleven there."  The Suffolk Police Department will review all the violations to determine if a citation and fine will be sent to drivers. Multiple red-light cameras have been installed throughout Suffolk. For a full list of locations, click here. For more information on traffic enforcement cameras throughout the city, click here.
