GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - Back-to-back hurricanes have brought tourism throughout Florida to a screeching halt. It's an area that normally attracts thousands of people from around the country including travelers from Northeast Wisconsin. "Anytime we do travel surveys whether it's for a big holiday weekend or something else the top destinations are going to include at least two or three destinations in Florida," said Nick Jarmusz who is the midwest Public Affairs Officer for Triple A. Jarmusz provided some tips for travelers planning on visiting regions with unpredictable weather. WisDOT DMV takes action against three Wisconsin auto dealers "Working with a travel agent is especially important because they're going to streamline the process of getting the information, making changes to your itinerary," said Jarmusz. He also stressed the importance of purchasing travel insurance, especially for trips to places that have unpredictable weather. He also said to make sure you know what you're signing up for when you book hotels and airfare. "So it's really important that when you're booking take a close look at what those terms are, is it a straight-up full refund or would you be required simply to reschedule," said Jarmusz. Some popular tourist attractions are reopening after Hurricane Milton rolled through. According to its website, Disney has reopened its park. Busch Gardens, a popular theme park in Tampa Bay, announced on its website that its park remains closed. Tampa Bay International Airport and Orlando International Airport are open as well. It's important to remember though that communities will recover at their own pace and be able to welcome back tourists only when they're ready. Packers’ Doubs says he needs to communicate better as he discusses suspension for 1st time "You're going to want to make sure you're getting as much first-hand information as possible," said Jarmusz. "Contact your hotel, airline, resort or theme park." Jarmusz said that many people drive to the theme parks in Florida even from faraway destinations like Wisconsin to avoid expensive airfare. He says it's a good idea to visit Department of Transportation websites before you hit the road so you know which roads may be closed or inaccessible.
