Mekhi Gibson had an amazing freshman season at Kutztown and it appears as though 2024 is going to be even better. The redshirt sophomore, who played at Ewing High, is second on the team with 10 catches for 245 yards and a team high four touchdowns. The No. 5 Bears (5-0, 2-0 PSAC) defeated Bloomsburg, 42-10, on Saturday and Gibson was on the receiving end of a 38-yard touchdown pass. Gibson and the Bears host Lock Haven (2-3, 1-1 PSAC) this weekend in Andre Reed Stadium. Kutztown was also aided by the play of Drew Hensor (Pennsbury) with an interception and six tackles. Benattar Earns Patriot Honor Jess Benattar (Notre Dame) was named the Patriot League Women’s Soccer Goalkeeper of the Week after she recorded her fourth clean sheet of the season in Bucknell’s 1-0 win over Holy Cross. Benattar improved to 6-1-1 and the junior leads the Patriot League in goals-against average (.505) and ranks third in save percentage at 85 percent Rentner Earns NJAC Honor Colin Rentner (Allentown) was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after six saves in The College of New Jersey’s first win of the season, which was also the conference opener. The 1-0 win over Kean marked the first career win and shutout for the senior keeper. He also had six saves to keep the Lions in reach in a hard-fought 1-0 loss to DeSales. Rentner totaled 12 saves and allowed just one goal. De Silva Leads NJAC Runners Senan De Silva (Notre Dame) is in his first season of Cross Country for The College of New Jersey and he earned Rookie of the Week honors after he led all first-year runners in a Paul Short Run at Lehigh University. He finished the 8K course in 24:42.3. Korzeniowski Leads Penn Stas Korzeniowski (Pennington) scored the lone goal in the 57th minute to push #25 Penn past Harvard, 1-0.
