CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 14-year-old boy was found in possession of a handgun after police said he displayed it to another student on school property at Meadowbrook High School. According to Chesterfield Police, in the morning of Friday, Oct. 11, a student at Meadowbrook High School called their parent and reported that another student had shown them a gun. Police said when the suspect showed the other student the gun, they were on school property, but outside of the school building. The parent then called school administrators and the school was placed on lockdown. Officers located the student who was shown the gun and began investigating. Other responding officers saw two people in the area of the school, one of which matched the description of the suspect who displayed the gun. According to police, officers then detained those individuals, one of which was a 14-year-old boy who was identified as the person who displayed the gun. Police found him in possession of a handgun. No one was reported injured in the incident. According to police, charges are pending for the 14-year-old boy. According to a spokesperson for Chesterfield County Public Schools, a message was shared with Meadowbrook High School families and staff to inform them of the lockdown and that students would not be able to leave the building until the situation was resolved. Another message was shared when the lockdown was lifted and reported that Meadowbrook High School would continue with its instructional day. In a third message shared at around 12:45 p.m. on Friday, Chesterfield Schools reported that the 14-year-old boy who had displayed the gun to another student had asked them if they would like to buy it. "The situation today was resolved quickly because a student spoke up. Please encourage your child to always talk to a trusted adult when something is concerning to them. By being strong partners, we can help ensure safety at our school," said the third message from Chesterfield Schools. This comes a week and 3 days after a 17-year-old student was stabbed at Meadowbrook High School on Tuesday, Oct. 1, after which a 14-year-old and two 15-year-old students were charged. Police have not confirmed any connection between the two incidents.
