MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A Portsmouth man has been arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase through the town on Thursday night, according to Middletown police. Anthony Martin, 48, has been charged with multiple counts stemming from the chase and resulting collisions, along with existing charges of assault and disorderly conduct. The incident occurred on October 10 at approximately 11:35 a.m. when Martin was stopped for a violation on West Main Road with a female passenger. After the officer got the driver’s license and registration, the vehicle fled the stop and headed north, driving recklessly and striking a vehicle at the intersection with Woolsey Road. The vehicle then struck another vehicle near a shopping plaza entrance and then collided with a pickup truck turning onto Browns Lane. The suspect vehicle crashed into a fire hydrant and the driver fled on foot. Officers apprehended Martin after a brief foot pursuit and he was transported to Newport Hospital for evaluation, along with the female passenger. Martin was found to be wanted by Rhode Island State police on the assault and disorderly conduct charges. No injuries were reported as a result of the multiple collisions.
