PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and the Rhode Island Department of Health confirmed that additional samples of eastern equine encephalitis and the West Nile virus were found in recent mosquito samples. According to a release, EEE was found in a sample collected in Westerly, and West Nile virus was found in a sample collected in Exeter. A total of 84 samples were collected from 35 traps around the state on September 19, 30, and October 2. No additional samples tested positive. So far, there’s been one confirmed human case off EEE virus, three confirmed human cases of WNV, and three probable human cases of WNV. Officials are urging resident to take precautions, including wearing insect repellant and avoiding outdoor activities when mosquitoes are the most active. Categories: News
