Road closures resuming for Washington Bridge demolition
Oct 11, 2024
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Starting on Tuesday night, road closures will go back into effect as demolition work resumes on the westbound side of the Washington Bridge.
The demolition work was paused to allow state officials to "preserve evidence" for its ongoing legal battle with companies that allegedly failed to spot the bridge's structural problems.

Starting at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close a section of Waterfront Drive in East Providence at the I-195 overpass. The closure will be in place for about a week.
Drivers will be directed to follow a detour using Valley Street. RIDOT also warned that a portion of Valley Street will have a gravel surface.
Starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, RIDOT will close a section of Gano Street in Providence at the I-195 overpass.
There will be regular closures on Gano Street from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.
Overnight deck hammering is only expected to last three more nights before shifting to daytime work, according to RIDOT.
