LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Lexington is set to celebrate a monumental milestone in 2025, marking 250 years since the city’s founding in 1775. City officials have announced a year-long series of events to honor Lexington’s rich history, with plans unveiled during the recent “Thursday Night Live” downtown. Mayor Linda Gorton shared her excitement about the celebration, dubbed “250 LEX.” “250 LEX is in every sense a grassroots Lexington celebration, involving people from all over town with events to celebrate all kinds of reasons to love our city,” she said. Eunice Beatty and Kip Cornett, co-chairs of the 250Lex commission, emphasized the inclusive nature of the festivities. Beatty highlighted, “There will be something for everyone—and room for everyone to participate.” Cornett added, “It’s time to get ready for a full year unlike any in our history.” The kickoff to the celebration is scheduled for December 31, with a free New Year’s Eve event in downtown Lexington, promising a festive start to a year of commemorations.
