Two men from Franklin Lakes have been charged in the theft of $350 thousand from a Jersey City church.According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Christopher Poppe, 35, and Glen Poppe, 65, were arrested at her office in Secaucus and released pending their first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for October 15. In 2021, said Suarez, St. George & St. Shenouda Coptic Church in Jersey City hired Centurion Companies, a business associated with defendants, to perform construction work. The investigation found that the church issued Centurion Companies payments in excess of $350 thousand to pay third-party contractors for additional services. Falsified records were submitted to the church indicating that the third-party contractors had been paid. In fact, the money had not been dispersed to the contractors. The defendants are each with charged with Theft by Deception and Conspiracy to Commit Theft by Deception.
