BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- The son of a former NFL player was sentenced Friday to three years probation in connection with the hit-and-run crash that killed one person in 2022.
The sentencing includes 250 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine.
Walter Brister IV, 23, of Covington, pleaded guilty to hit-and-run with serious bodily injury/death in September. Jude Jarreau, 44, was struck and killed while trying to cross Ben Hur Road in October 2022.
Brister turned himself in to the police and was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
After bonding out, his attorney said Brister did not know he was the one responsible for the fatal crash until the next day.
Brister’s father, “Bubby” Brister, played quarterback in the NFL for 14 seasons.
