BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- A temporary shelter-in-place was issued Friday morning after officials were notified of a pipeline leak in a portion of Plaquemine.
The Iberville Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness said the leak is located on Belleview Road, south of Plaquemine High School. Officials said the high school and Pecan Meadow were placed on a temporary shelter-in-place. The Iberville Parish School District said students and staff were advised to stay indoors.
In an 11 a.m. update, officials said the shelter-in-place order was lifted for the high school while it is still in place for a nearby neighborhood.
"The valve has been shut off, and they are flaring the rest of the product," emergency preparedness officials said in a Friday morning message.
Officials said Exxon Mobil is on the scene and updates will be given when the area is safe again.
