Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers will miss a second straight game with a concussion. Nabers, 21, did not practice for a second straight week and remains out for Sunday night’s game between the Giants (2-3) and Cincinnati Bengals (1-4) at MetLife Stadium, head coach Brian Daboll said Friday morning. “He won’t make it,” Daboll said. “We’re making progress, but again, that’s never anything you want to rush.” The rookie No. 6 overall pick did some running on the side Friday, which was more than the stationary bike ride he’d been limited to on Thursday. But Daboll confirmed Nabers is recovering from “a pretty good concussion” in the Giants’ Week 4 loss to Dallas on Sept. 26. “It’s a serious thing,” the coach said. So that explains why Nabers’ Wednesday running on a backfield was dialed back to almost nothing on Thursday and why he has not progressed to even limited practice participation. Daboll wasn’t just dealing with the absence of his top receiver, though. He also had to manage the bad optics of Nabers attending a Travis Scott concert at MetLife Stadium on Wednesday night while in the concussion protocol. Nabers’ presence at the concert has drawn rampant criticism on social media. When Daboll was asked if he had any issue with Nabers attending the concert, the coach didn’t say no. “I’ll keep that all in-house,” he said. Daboll did say Nabers had not violated any protocol by attending the show. Still, it was not a great look considering Nabers remained stagnant in the protocol this week after seemingly being knocked unconscious in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys. People who attended the concert also told the Daily News that there were a ton of strobe lights and flashing lights in addition to the loud music. The Giants’ coach also didn’t say no when asked if Nabers had been knocked out on the fourth-down incompletion. “It was a pretty big hit,” Daboll said. “I’m not going to get into what it was, but it was certainly a big hit.” Nabers still leads the Giants with 35 catches, 386 receiving and three touchdowns despite playing in only four of their five games. The Giants beat the Seahawks in Seattle last Sunday without Nabers as veteran receiver Darius Slayton went off for eight catches, 122 yards and a touchdown. But now they’ll have to outscore Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Cincinnati without him, which is another challenge entirely. This is a developing story, check back for updates.
