President Biden will visit Florida Sunday to survey the damange from Hurricane Milton, the White House announced Friday. The trip will be to parts of the state impacted by the deadly hurricane, which made landfall late Wednesday and caused extensive flooding and destruction, leaving millions without power. The White House did not say if Biden will meet with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) during the trip. The two most recently spoke Thursday about the hurricane. The president has given multiple speeches from the White House this week about the federal response effort to Milton, as well as Hurricane Helene, and has called out false claims from former President Trump and his allies about the cleanup. On Thursday, Biden said Trump should “get a life” and stop spreading claims, especially that those impacted by the storm are only receiving $750 in government assistance. He also called those spreading misinformation un-American. DeSantis and Vice President Harris have traded barbs this week about the response to the storm. Harris accused DeSantis of playing political games by not taking her calls while the governor has accused her of trying to insert herself into the relief effort while he has been in touch with Biden.
