In LA, we’re accustomed to the weird and wonderful, and for this Halloween, we put together a guide that has all the best haunts and happenings across the city. From spine-tingling haunted houses to immersive theatrical horrors, hayrides through haunted forests, and family-friendly puppet shows, LA has something for every ghost, ghoul and thrill-seeker. Get ready to explore the spooky side of the City of Angels — if you dare … muahahaha! Zombie Joe’s Urban Death Tour of Terror (Zombie Joe’s Underground) This adults-only haunted attraction offers a more memorable macabre theatrical experience than any terrifying walk-through or haunted house the city has to offer. Starting with a pitch-black maze filled with amusing perversions, the main attraction features a short stage show of a dozen vignettes, each more depraved than the next. Wheelchair accessible.  Los Angeles Haunted Hayride (Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group) One of the city’s best and most unique haunted attractions, that special time of year when Griffith Park is transformed from a hiking oasis for the Stanley tumbler-carrying masses to a massive playground for foul fiends of the night. Families are welcome.  Bob Baker Marionette Theater Presents Hallowe’en Spooktacular  (Bob Baker Marionette Theater / STEPHENIE PASHKOWSKY) This hour-long marionette show is a beloved part of Los Angeles history. The family-friendly “boo-sical revue” features over a hundred different spooky yet spirited puppets eager to commemorate the Halloween season with young ones. This string-operated cabaret is an interactive show that celebrates the art of puppetry with a new generation, creating cherished childhood memories for years to come while ringing in the H’ween holiday for the whole Franken-family. A man haunted by his tragic past and obsessed with your “special abilities,” he looks to you to right past wrongs, even if they go against the natural world and science.  Always a step beyond any creepy walk-through or haunted attraction, Delusion: The Red Castle is an interactive experience that offers shock and awe. The one-hour immersive experience explores the infamous mansion and the backstories of its undead residents with an exhilarating encounter. Before the fearsome fun begins, guests are given the opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of the Woodstone Bed & Breakfast pre-show lounge, known for its historic charm and phantom residents who haunt the premises. The LA Opera Presents Spanish Dracula With a Live Orchestra (LA Opera) Presented by the historic United Theater on Broadway (formerly known as The Ace Theater), The LA Opera is screening the 1931 classic horror film Spanish Dracula starring Carlos Villarías in the titular role of the Count. The Spanish-language vamp outing will be screened with English subtitles in the renowned Spanish Gothic theater as conductor Lina González-Granados leads the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra in a live performance of a new score by Academy Award-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla, who will also perform. Known for its hundreds of singing and dancing skeletons, undead tableaus featuring dozens of “skelebrating” friends, thousands of colorful lights, and lively music that will get claws tapping, this interactive experience is wholesome family fun that rings in the spooky season for creatures of all ages. Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights  (Lindsay Kwek / NBCUniversal) It’s that special time of year when extreme horror fans pay to have chainsaw-wielding punks, crazed clowns, and demonic demons on stilts terrorize them for the fun of it. One of the leaders in theme park haunted attractions, Universal Studios transforms its delightful movie backlot into a fully immersive horror experience, an annual tradition since the ‘90s. Reign of Terror Haunted House (Reign of Terror Haunted House) Just outside of the City of Angels in the land of Thousand Oaks lives a Halloween attraction that needs to be seen to be believed. Inside the nondescript Janss Marketplace amongst the food court and retail stores lies Reign of Terror, a walk-through haunted house experience that consists of 11 interconnected attractions, 140+ rooms of nightmarish conjurings, and dozens upon dozens of creepy characters just waiting to make your acquaintance. Considered one of the best haunted attractions in the United States, this heart-pounding experience will add a few thrills to your holiday.  285 N. Guests are encouraged to dress the part and put on their finest, era-appropriate suits and silks while exploring the attraction.
