A call last Friday morning delivered interesting news about the Capital City Community Coalition (4C) meeting held at Friendship Baptist Church a day before. People who spread untruths, (erase that), lies, misinformation and dabble in city rumor regularly, alleged that Hope Grant, assistant superintendent of Trenton public schools, had a verbal confrontation with me. People. Never happened. Actually, Dr. Pam Pruitt, listed online as manager for Community Connections for Capital Health Institute, and I exchanged opinions regarding Capital Health Regional Medical Center receiving a low one-star rating from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. The dustup lasted all of 30 seconds. No biggie. People have a right to opinions although that sentiment lost value during terms served by previous members of city council. Nowadays, rubber-stamping nearly every initiative by Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora or saying nothing about city corruption supposedly represents exceptional leadership. Amazingly, no administration has faced more federal probes, state investigations, and confessions of malfeasance by employees than this current regime. Several leaders have lied in the face of New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy regarding operations at a community center, told whoppers about police corruption, fibbed regarding meeting a whistleblower, etc. Unfortunately, lying, whether it involves little white ones or similarly-sized black ones, have become acceptable in this capital city. We can shelve a column about this one-star hospital review for another day but allow two important points. A disagreement with Ms. Pruitt on one issue does not scuttle our relationship. People can, do and should have different perspectives and perceptions on numerous topics. Finally, this 4Cs meeting delivered a windfall of information including insights about pardons and commutations of sentences, and reentry. Plus, attendees were informed that high school students graduating in each of the next three years must complete a FAFSA form, which gives students potential access to federal and state financial aid resources. Finally, Grant outlined Trenton Public School policies that deal with bullying.  All discussed topics need further review and should attract discussion. Bypass all the other nonsense, please. L.A.
