FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The City of Fresno announced that they've picked a firm to conduct a nationwide search for the city's next police chief.  "Beginning next Friday and Saturday, we'll have a firm that will be doing some virtual community meetings together from community members," said Fresno Mayor, Jerry Dyer. "My hope is that considering the holidays in November and December, my hope is to have a police chief selected by the end of the first quarter of 2025." Fresno's former Police Chief, Paco Balderrama resigned from the department back on July 25 following the admission of an inappropriate off-duty relationship. "We really just want the best police chief to be in Fresno, because, you know, arguably of all of the department directors, we have," Dyer said. "A police chief is the one that we need to spend the appropriate amount of time on to make sure we get it right." Dyer said the firm they selected; Public Sector Search will hold virtual community meetings to listen to what residents want.  Aside from the virtual public meetings, Dyer says there will also be mailers sent out to residents.  "I think the common theme that I got from community leaders was they want somebody that is going to be fully engaged in the community," he said. "All parts of the community are the ninth most diverse city in the nation. We want a police chief that can relate to all of those community groups."
