TURNERS FALLS, Mass. (WWLP) - People here in western Massachusetts got to voice their concerns about the state's water quality certification process. The State Department of Environmental Protection held a public information session Thursday evening. Those interested attended an in-person session at the Shea Theater in Turner Falls or joined via Zoom. This is the second of three meetings expected to be held. It comes after 'first light power' filed an application to re-license some of the Connecticut River's hydroelectric facilities. Tim Jones with the Department of Environmental Protection told 22News, "As part of the certification process we can impose conditions to improve water quality aspects related to water quality conditions we can do that." A draft decision on the certification application is expected to be released in December or early January. Another meeting will be held when the draft is released.
